The Umbrella was Noko's pre-Luxuria band.
The released a single E.P. with three tracks on it, called:

Make Hell (For The Beautiful People)

[1] Make Hell (For The Beautiful People)
[2] William Brel
[3] The Persuaders

To imagine these tracks musically, picture Luxuria, which you hopefully have heard,
add in a slight touch of gypsy and a pinch of The Cure,
and then lace Noko vocals across the result,
coupled with lyrics that are decidedly...
goth.

Granted, no one but Noko and the previous The Umbrella bandmembers will know the actual lyrics,
as Noko sings in a manner that is a touch more emotionally torn than Devoto,
which sadly has the effect that, err, with all due respect...
you can't understand a word!

(for measly attempts by this fan and H'Disi to decipher lyrics,
check out the Apollo 4 40 Shrine in the songs by year section,
clicking on the approcriate value for 1985.)
And typing that, I just noticed
...
I was one year old back then.
Woe is me.

The Umbrella band members:

[1] Norman Fisher-Jones @ vocals & guitar
[2] Mark Sanderson @ bass << 'nother sexy guy right there. >:)
[3] Simon Hoare @ drums
[4] James Gardner @ keyboard[?]

You may notice that only Mark Sanderson has seemingly vanished without a trace.
J.G. shows up again in @440 as a founding member,
and S.H. did drums on Millennium Fever (the track I can explicitely
remember him taking part with being Astral America)

I'm not going to put links to the The Umbrella pictures of these people
that I have on this website, simply because
I'd hate for someone who accidentally hits "tab"
to find out something is actually written here.

Oh, yeah, about that.
Do I have something to hide?
Not really! Everyone knows I'm obsessed beyond
belief with Noko and his bands, so that's not it!
I'll tell you why. Because I can. And because frankly,
I'd much rather have The Umbrella all for myself.
